The small town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the provincial capital of the Galapagos Archipel, where the regional office of local health is located.
Although the Galapagos Islands receive more than 185,000 tourists a year and has more than 50,000 permanent residents, only recently the health care has become a priority under the current government. With only 1 permanent physiotherapist on the island, physiotherapy students who want to do their internship on the island are more than welcome and can be of great value to the island.
Activities for trainees
Examples of activities:
As an intern you can work alongside the physiotherapist and treat different patients at different parts of the island. If you have a special interest in e.g. sports physiotherapy, early stimulation on todlers, working with multiple disabled children, etc. you can dedicate a part of your internship to one of these patients groups.
Before starting your internship you must speak at least the basics of Spanish, so you can communicate with your internship supervisor and patients. Your internship supervisor does not speak English. You can achieve this by taking a Spanish course in Ecuador. You need to be patient, and be able to take initiative and have organizational skills.
Just to be clear:
On-Stage Latin America provides many internships for all kinds of study programs. Besides the available vacancies on the website, we also offer a wide range of other internships. If you have a specific request, send us an e-mail and we will do our best to help you.
